landscape

by definition:

all the visible features of an area of land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal.

untitled, cob moules (rocky coast of Maine I) (2019) [canvas, oil]

Analysis:

California based landscape artist Cobi Moules focuses directly on his own personal narrative within his landscape canvas paintings. Paintings presenting influence to his queer and transgender identity.

Moules paintings challenge the dominance of a lanscape, both literally and metaphorically. Where landscapes are to be perceived as wild or remote, Cobi Moules portrays these landscapes heavily populated - by the artist himself. Within these scenic landscape, they are full with adventurous, playful and irreverent self-portraits wearing identical clothing.

By doing this, the filling of the scenes with multiple human figures, Cobi Moules attempts to present the fluidity of his own identity as a transgendered person. By having multiple figures of himself, "he lends weight to his presence in the world—emphatically affirming his authenticity and his right to make his own way" (stateofheart, 2018)

To me, his paintings really represents freedom, through these scenic landscapes portraying open water and clear skies. The use of multiple depictions of himself is also apparent for that identity is an important factor of his work. Within my designs I will be using representations of freedom from consumerism and capatilsit environments/ companies through the use of imagery, using clear skies, flowers and other means of nature in order to present this. Cobi Moules work is important to my last collection of artworks due to his alternate methodology of present identity, using landscapes within fine art paintings is different to any other artist I have researched.

- basically its pretty and it's what I decided to base the pretty landscapes on future poster designs off.

- helps provide contrast between seriousness and not.

a representation of freedom (of consumerism - once you shop, you can't stop)
